HUUK Architects are a creative architecture studio based in Brighton. We’ve known the partners behind HUUK for some time and we were very pleased when the opportunity arose to work with them on their new site. We were commissioned to design and develop an updated online presence for HUUK that would allow them to showcase their services and previous work, whilst at the same time helping them to stand out from a crowded marketplace.
We started with an assessment of sites from other architectural practices of a similar size to HUUK. A common trope amongst the competition was that of extreme minimalism. Quite often this resulted in a site that felt unwelcoming, preventing the user from establishing an emotional connection with the brand in question.
Our approach for the new HUUK site was a little different. The team behind HUUK are a talented, friendly bunch so rather than hide this behind a minimal user interface, we put the personality of the studio front and centre.
Through a series of discussion with HUUK, we opted for a single-page, typography-led design that takes the user on a journey from an initial introduction, through a gallery of HUUK’s previous work, their service offering and history, finishing with a contact section that encourages interaction. The ultimate purpose of the site is to convert site users into potential leads and so the flow of the site is optimised to get people to get in touch by email or phone.
The end result is a responsive, WordPress-powered site that engages the user and helps HUUK to communicate their personality and brand in a sector that so often forgets to do this very thing.
